Malingkeng is located in the northwestern part of Qidu District, Keelung City. It is an important area that combines beautiful natural scenery, coal mining history, and rural culture. The name “Maling” is believed to come from the language of the Ketagalan people and means a sacred and beautiful place. Because the area is full of valleys and streams, it later became known as “Malingkeng.” In the past, local residents mainly relied on farming and tea production. During the Japanese period, rich coal resources helped Malingkeng develop into an important mining area in northern Taiwan, contributing to the local economy. After the mining industry declined, residents returned to agricultural development. Surrounded by hills and valleys, Malingkeng is rich in forests, streams, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife. Today, with its scenic hiking trails and natural environment, it has become an important destination for ecological education, tourism, and outdoor recreation in Keelung.
