Within the Guangfu Campus are three distinctive classical-style buildings, formerly the barracks of the Japanese Army's 2nd Infantry Regiment in Taiwan. These buildings have been designated national monuments and are currently used by the Department of History, the Department of Industrial Design, and the Institute of Art Studies. All three buildings are typical second-phase permanent barracks buildings, and the barracks from this period are also considered the most ornate among Taiwan's permanent barracks buildings.
In addition to their British Victorian-style red brick walls, the buildings feature Roman-style continuous arches, symbolizing military strength. To accommodate Taiwan's climatic conditions, the design includes elevated void slabs, surrounding corridors, reinforced concrete floors, and steel roof trusses. A model of these barracks was exhibited at the World Hygiene Exposition in Germany in 1911. These structures are among the very few remaining Japanese infantry barracks in Taiwan.
