新化武德殿建於 1924 年，原本是新化瘧疾防遏事務所，後來在 1936 年時，成為大日本武德會臺南支部新化支所的演武場，供人練習柔道和劍道使用，在戰後成為警察眷屬宿舍，一直到 2006 年登錄為歷史建築後，才經過整修成為新化居民的公共空間。
現在武德殿內廣大的室內空間，除了靜態藝術展外，如故鄉文化講座或是音樂會也都在此舉辦，而現在也還有劍道教學在此舉辦，也作為社會教育的場所。

"The butokuden in Hsinhua was built in 1924 as Hsinhua Malaria Prevention and Control Office. In 1936, it became a martial arts arena for the Hsinhua Branch of the Tainan Branch of the Greater Japan Bokuden Association for people to practice judo and kendo. After the war, it became a dormitory for policemen and their families, and it was not until 2006, when it was registered as a historical building, that it was renovated into a public space for Hsinhua residents.
In addition to static art exhibitions, lectures, and concerts are held in the vast indoor space of the hall, and Kendo teaching is also held here, as well as a place for social education."
