On the east side of the Cheng Kung Campus, the Engineering Science, Computer Science and Information Engineering, Resource Engineering Complex was initially the building for the Applied Chemistry Department, the Electrical Engineering Department, and the Mechanical Engineering Department in the early days of NCKU. Later, a building for the Electrochemistry Department was also added. The complex features a double courtyard layout that better suits Taiwan's tropical climate. Besides ventilation towers on the roofs, it also includes raised floors and high-ceilinged indoor spaces. In line with the curriculum design of the Tainan Higher Industrial School at the time, the department buildings contained many spaces for laboratory and practical training equipment, providing students with ample practical resources.
