The first generation Wang Yong Chuan (1932-2020) learned carpentry from his father since childhood, initially making items like overhead tables, Buddha-altar, and cupboards. Later, he established the "Yongchuan Crafts Society" and Started making a divine palanquin by chance. Sedan chairs are intricate pieces that combine fine-finishing carpentry and chisel flowers. Wang Yongchuan's meticulous selection of materials and craftsmanship, using traditional mortise and tenon joints, resulted in lightweight yet sturdy sedan chairs, earning him widespread recognition. In 2010, Wang Yongchuan was recognized by the Tainan City Government as a preserver of traditional art in sedan chair making. The tradition has now been passed down to the third generation, with a showroom set up in the factory to bring traditional craftsmanship closer to the public.
